S: I open you the secret of TRIZ creation. The question was put at the beginning: how to help to usual person (being not genius, not super-talent) successful to solve difficult problems. ARIZ began to be created. This algorithm passed many stages and modifications. On the 1-st stages was understood, that complex problems are those, which is include TC. Principals of TC resolving appeared? But not of all complex problems were solved. What else we have to know to solve successfully? They understood that to study evolution of TS is necessary. Laws of TS evolution (TRTS) appeared. Then standards and effects appeared. A lot of problems were solved by means of applying of these tools. But very difficult were solved only by ARIZ. If to compare the tools of problem solving with apparatus of vision improvements, then Trial and Error method will be eyes, principals - spectacles, standards - magnifying glass and ARIZ - microscope.

I have read an article in TRIZ Journal July-2007 to describe more about Solution Levels subject, it is describe the solution levels not inventions levels, because the solution is more general than invention. http://www.triz-journal.com/archives/2007/07/02/ I have found it clear definition for each level, I can summarize the levels in: - Level-5 Discovery: it is not invention it is discovery new exist effects or principles of nature. - Level-4: Functions: New function of the discovered effect - Level-3: Applications: New application of the exist function. - Level-2: Qualitative Improvement: improve the exist system by integrate with another system in the same field. e.g. (mechanical with mechanical) - Level-1: Quantities Improvement: improve the exist system by improve within system. S: Unfortunately, there are no objective criteria of definition of a level of the technical solution (invention). This question should be developed on scientific level. Altshuller's criterion or sent by you - these are subjective estimations of levels of inventions. We give this material to pupils that there was a precise representation: inventions are different, different value, different complexity, in TRIZ the greatest value of inventions have the highest levels inventions; person should aspire to them.

As to me, I don't use this tool for problem solving. Why? Because I have a strong TRIZ-thinking (ARIZ and standards are in my mind). But always I use this programm for the beginning of innovation project: construction of the model of system, functional analysis, convolution and etc. Often I use pointer of physical effects.

All these systems differ a little from each other. This is commercial principal – one should release new products, in order it better were sold. From 2002 year these on 100% American company (founders were Russians). In Goldfire the block of semantic search is introduced. I.e. from Internet computer will pump great amount of usefulness information which will require long time to read. The ideology of authors: It is better to find ready solution, than to invent. This is typically American approach. I think program will worsen for time.

Our main purpose is innovative projects. Training is additional business.
Therefore individual distance learning is preferable. It is modern, effective and convenient for the person and managers of personnel.
Study can be added by online videoconferences (express-consultations on the final work theme,
answer on questions. Exit seminars are possible in exceptional cases with higher payment.
What about 1-2 weeks seminars do you speak? TRIZ is impossible to study within 1-2 week (6 hours per day).
It can be only introductory lectures and trial (base, demonstration) trainings on TRIZ. During this time does not occur thinking change (usually it requires 1 year). Therefore after this training it is necessary to train 6-9 months remotely (distantly) obligatory.
Seminar with duration 1 week (6 hour per day) shortens distance learning on 2-3 months (with the condition that the person will spent else 2-4 hours on home tasks making daily. It is hard routine. At this the seminar with the duration 2 week adds

I am still struggling a little bit with one of the fundaments in TRIZ: the main useful function. What is actually the best way to identify the main useful function of a system? As an example a wind turbine and its subsystems the nacelle, tower and wind blades. What are the MUF of the system and the MUF of its different subsystems? Could you reply on this please? I am mainly confusing the goal with the MUF of a system I am afraid.
MUF of systems - to execute the requirement (desire) of higher rank system (the first from a rank of this system).
The second rule: if mentally to remove any element of system, then MUF will not be carried out (that means MUF is correctly formulated).
Example: wind power station (WPS) - not the wind turbine, but whole system.
WPS MUF - to give the energy to the person (to transform a wind power into electric one). Remove any element (blades, transmission, the generator,
etc.) and MUF will not be carried out.
Blades MUF (propeller): to catch (to take) mechanical energy of moving air.
Transmissions MUF: to transfer mechanical energy from a propeller into a shaft of the generator.
Generator MUF: to transform mechanical energy of rotor rotation into electrical one.
Weathercock MUF: to turn a propeller towards to a wind.
Frame MUF: to keep elements of WPS in given

I'm a manager and expect application TRIZ in this area. Will your TRIZ course provide it?
TRIZ course is based only on engineering, it is a classical course. But our trainee were teachers, staff manager, product sale manager, sport trainer, biologist etc. All world and our society consists of systems, these systems cooperate, develop, counteract. Most thoroughly developed the laws of technical systems evolution. These laws are universal, their sense (maintenance)can be applied to any systems. Certainly, any field of knowledge has the features and own terminology but having a small training easily it is possible to learn how to transfer a principals and rules which are suitable for the technical problem solving on the problems from any area of human being. It would be good to adapt TRIZ for nontechnical areas. And this process goes already. But, unfortunately, frequently it is accompanied by a TRIZ "mutation" (distortion, simplification).
The best way is to obtain classical TRIZ knowledge and itself to adapt it to the own area. Such adaptation will begin already during the training (second half of lessons). Search and the formulation of a real problem from the trainee's area will begin (under the personal Dr.Salamatov supervision. It will be a theme of the final work. Final work should be carried out at a level of the invention i.e. to have a world priority and novelty. Whether it is a full adaptation TRIZ to your area?

S: This is only an example of the typical problem (30 years ago). I do not know the solution. I am fully with confident that it is solved and the technical contradiction is resolved. It is necessary to view the chapter (metal hardening by laser beam in nitrogen atmosfere) in patent data base of Russia or USPTO.
Another one is why do you think "In fact, technical contradiction may not emerge when we are synthesizing a technical system (completion of S-Field model), for nothing prevents the inventor from introducing the missing elements into the system. This is the only case when inventive problems are solved without technical contradictions. S: It is absolutely always this way!
Is there any "inventive" situation where no technical contradiction have been eliminated?
S: Of course and there are many such problems. These problems are on the front of the science and engineering. Somebody (an inventor) planning to create new (innovative) technical system, formulating which functions should be (how TS correlate with human-society needs), trying to find physical-chemical-geometrical effect in science (for the contradiction resolving) and… does not finding it. There is no such effect! And this is very important assertion. This is social order for science to find out such effect, carry out research and formulate science problem.
And the last questions, which is related to the second question, is:

Let’s consider an example. At tests of the engine of internal combustion (EIC) periodically it is necessary to measure deterioration of its details, therefore in 50th years of 20 century a standard on definition of metal particles in oil was accepted. For this purpose they take the test of the oil and define the contents of metal particles in them by chemical method. The analysis takes approximately 1 hour. At EIC creation for the racing car engines working on extremely modes this way appeared unacceptable. For this time EIC "will run" 200-250 km. It is too much to define the critical moment of the destruction beginning of EIC details precisely. How to be? TC: for definition of the moment of the destruction beginning of EIC details it is necessary to carry out the analysis of oil on presence of metal particles, but it cannot be made at the moment of the destruction beginning (1-10 seconds), since the analysis takes 1 hour. I.e. the analysis of the metal content should be continuous, and existing method has the period 1 hour. TC resolution: a phosphor (luminophor) adds in oil and fine particles of metal extinguish a luminescence of the phosphor. It continuously allows supervising the metal content in oil.

Any training gives something to the person: an occupation, new knowledge, skills, working methods. Marketing training gives new knowledge but not changes the thinking. TRIZ - is unique tool today for change of trivial (stereotyped) thinking onto innovative one. Such change of thinking we always observe at trained engineers. It comes not so quickly, approximately after 12 months of training. The person having innovational thinking views the world around as another one; he boldly begin to solve any inventive problem; he understands, that there are no not solved problems. The person having innovational thinking has a great value for companies aimed on innovational development and he is not necessary for out-of-date (backward) companies.

Altshuller's matrix is the outdated TRIZ tool of inventive problem solving. It is not necessary to develop it. Such article you can write, it is not prohibetted.

Dear, I am trying to study ARIZ 85 and someone pass me this problem about movil phones: There are antique movil telephones that transfer only latin words.In some foreign countries there are laws that request that mesages only can be transmitted in national alphabets.But this national alphabets require more words than the latin alphabet. So you need the necesary memory to contain this foreign alphabets that are not present in this antiques movil phones.But to add memory is expensive. So you need “the change without a change”. The company needs to sell antiques movil phones but it is not posible not to comply with the law.So the antique phone must transfer all written mesages in any alphabet. Adittional info: the antique phones uses a pack of eight elements for the record of each letter.The pack quantity is equal to the quantity of the latin alphabet. ARIZ is a strong TRIZ tool. It applied only for difficult problems. Most of problems should be solved by principals or standards firstly. Iven if the problem canot be solved you should apply ARIZ.

Advertizing belongs to highly competitive types of business. Whose was a winner in such this competition? Only original, only that which captures attention of the customer. Which thing draws attention? The person is surprised, attentively watchs, tries to understand and therefore remembers. Which things surprises the customer? Only unusual combination, unusual principals, unusual collision of opposite properties. "Ordinary" human does not have unusual thinking. TRIZ teaches to formulate and resolve contradictions. Also there is a special course of improvement of creative imagination. The person gets two valuable (the new! ) properties: to be able to resolve contradictions and strong imagination. The nature didn't give to the human these properties, they can be got only during TRIZ training.

I have one practical set of questions for Dr Salamatov: I am currently working on a systematic innovation project. I am applying your recommendations for struggling against psychological inertia carried by the technical system (lessons 14 and 15 of my training). One additional recommendation is to use RTV (Improvement of Creative Imagination). But I have been trained mainly to generate fantastic ideas, with the help of different methods. Which methods do you recommend to use in priority? How to make the connection with the real system? Best regards, Stéphane
There are two main methods of release from the psyhological inertia:
1 . To be free from special terms, to go to the neutral part, to give absolutely independent simple names to the tool, a product, elements of TS. To write down these new terms, to make simple drawing of TS and on it to write all these terms. Constantly to hold and repeat this drawing in mind. New terms have to be close to functions carried out by these elements. I.e. main goal of this principal: to clear function of long-term layers of special technical terminology. Only function and nothing more!
2 . The STC (size, time, cost) operator is very strong principal! We in detail study it in lessons. STC is in my book also. Make such analysis on considered TS: slowly, carefully considering, surely everything write down and hang up it before eyes for some days – sometimes look and think again.

MATRIZ Level 3 Expert & Chairman TRIZ Association of Asia was one of your students.I am very intrested in this subject and intend to make it my career. I am in class 12th and will be giving an engineering entrance shortly. which field should I choose if i want to take up TRIZ as a subject further? and how long does it take to be a level one?
It can be any technical field. Duration of level 1 requires about 3 months.

Please explain how to solve complex problems.
1. Real systems always have a complex of problems. Very often these problems are interconnected (but not always!). For this reason prior to the beginning of the of problem solving (i.e. prior to the beginning of system development) it is necessary to carry out two stages – information and analytical. And to carry out as it is possible more carefully and more deeply. Only after it you can reveal key problems and solve not "a complex of problems", and only several key problems. For example, now we work on the express project (3 months) on processing of liquid aluminum. 90 % of time have spent on information gathering and processing, on the situation analysis, on understanding of all details of the process. For this purpose we have collected and have read not only patents, but also dissertations on this theme. This branch is reach, there are a lot of scientists, the annual congresses – to 1000 articles and reports. It is very difficult to make here something new, but we have made some concepts. And on them only 10 % of time have spent.
It is "TRIZ after Altshuller", this is innovative design. Altshuller, really, almost didn't solve real (industrial) problems. He wrote textbooks, and problems should be cleared from all superfluous in textbooks. I also wrote the books using "the cleared problems".
ID methodology is the following step of TRIZ development. Your question is successfully solved in this methodology.
N.Homenko only tried to write scientific works, but really valuable to TRIZ he doesn't have any work.
2. Yes, TRIZ is powerful, when the reason is known. It is Altshuller's TRIZ.
